The Falcon Soars

February 8, 2015

2015 might well go down in aviation history as the year Dassault redefined the business jet. With the first flight of the Falcon 8X successfully completed on February 6th and the first flight of the Falcon 5X planned for later year, business aviation might never be the same again!

The Falcon 5X will feature the largest cabin cross section in its class and offer its passengers more personal space and a more luxurious experience. The combination of advanced aerodynamics, next generation flight controls and ultra efficient engines will give the Falcon 5X a range of 5,200nm, allowing the aircraft to whisk up to 8 passengers from London to Miami, or from Johannesburg to Geneva.

The Falcon 5X’s big brother, the Falcon 8X, is equally impressive, boasting both the longest range and longest cabin ever for a Falcon. The Falcon 8X cabin is an incredible 13 meters long and comes in 30 different configurations giving operators unparalleled choice and limitless flexibility. With a 6,450nm range the Falcon 8X can connect Los Angeles and Moscow, Mumbai and Sydney. The aircraft is also capable of operating in to airports such as London City and Aspen which have historically been closed to large cabin aircraft.

The Falcon 5X and the 8X boast a comprehensive suite of Honeywell technologies which improve the aircraft’s safety, efficiency and performance. Both aircraft feature the next generation Honeywell EASy flight deck which incorporates some of the most advanced technologies in the air. These include our SmartView™ synthetic vision system, the IntuVue 3D weather radar and the world renowned Honeywell EGPWS. This wealth of data is delivered to the pilot through large format multifunction LCD displays – ensuring the data is easy to scan and assimilate! Both aircraft also benefit from Honeywell’s Next Generation Flight Management System (NGFMS) which enhances flight planning, navigation and guidance for shorter, more direct flights with optimized efficiency and performance.

“Honeywell has enjoyed a long relationship with Dassault and we are delighted that the latest version of our EASy flight deck is featured on the 5X and 8X," said Julie de Cevins, Honeywell vice president, Business & General Aviation for Europe, Middle East, Africa and India, “Together with other Honeywell technologies we are able to provide pilots with unparalleled situational awareness, whilst delivering compliance with current and upcoming mandates.”
