Name: Marty Rollinger
Title: Director of Flight Operations for a small privately held company in the Midwest.
As the Director of Flight Operations, Marty Rollinger is responsible for the supervision of all flight department activities, such as scheduling, maintenance, training, flight operations, security and ensuring customer satisfaction.
With the 2020 mandates looming in the future, Marty wanted a comprehensive solution that would both assure his company’s Falcon Jet would continue to have access to US airspace in 2020 and install additional safety features.
Partnering with Honeywell and Dassault Falcon Jet, Marty upgraded the aircraft's cockpit to the EASy II. For his team, this solution didn’t just make their aircraft mandate compliant. It introduced them to new features that business jet pilots have long sought after. Featured upgrades included Synthetic Vision System (SVS), satellite-based augmentation system approaches(SBAS), Automatic Descent Mode, SmartRunway (RAAS), Controller Pilot Data Link Communication (CPDLC), FMS improvements, and go-around improvements and more.
" We are very pleased with the RAAS and the synthetic vision system. While the left seat pilot still uses the Head Up Display primarily, the right seat pilot finds the SVS increases his situational awareness especially in the arrival, approach and landing phases of flight."
Since implementing EASy II, it enhanced operational safety, while also dramatically improving the aircraft efficiency. With Synthetic Vision, Wide Area Augmentation System ( WAAS GPS), RAAS and ADS-B Out being used every flight, EASy II is integral to operating the aircraft,” said Marty.
Key benefits include:
- Controller Pilot Data Link Communication (CPDLC): increased communication functionality and capability crossing the Atlantic, and has also allowed them to participate in the US transition to DATA COMM.
- Localizer Performance with Vertical guidance (LPV): increased their ability to operate safely and efficiently to many additional runways.
- ADS-B Out: allowed them to comply with the up and coming mandate.
