Flying High with Johnny Jet and the Aviation Nation

May 17, 2017 | Author: Angel Soria

When I first heard the name “Johnny Jet” I thought he was probably a comic-book hero or a character in a children’s book. You know, like “Thomas the Tank Engine.”

Turns out that Johnny (we’re now on a first-name basis) is actually a respected voice in the social media world with a popular website and 117,000 Twitter followers @JohnnyJet. He’s created an impressive online community of people eager to learn about travel deals, pick up travel tips and share travel experiences.

Johnny’s followers are extremely passionate about flying. So we were excited when our recent social media campaign about Challenging Airports caught Johnny’s eye. It was a great fit to sponsor a Twitter chat on the topic of #TravelSkills.

We’re always looking for opportunities to tell the world about Honeywell’s cutting-edge technologies that improve the safety, efficiency and comfort of flight, while providing passengers everywhere with a better travel experience. This was also a perfect time to educate participants on our amazing connected aircraft capabilities – including the world’s fastest, most reliable inflight Wi-Fi.

The Twitter chat was held April 21 and moderated by @JohnnyJet, @cjmcginnis, @travelskills and yours truly, @Honeywell_Aero. To attract a broad audience of both travelers and aviation professionals, we used hashtags including #TravelSkills, #AvGeeks, #WiFiThatFlies and #StickTheLanding.

Non-stop tweets were generated during the chat, which was euphoric and an adrenaline rush all at the same time! Our expectations were exceeded by the number of people who joined our online conversation, their enthusiasm for the topics and the creativity behind their contributions. In just one hour we logged 1,682 aviation-related tweets with participants ranging from occasional travelers and frequent flyers to experienced pilots, travel industry experts and aviation enthusiasts. We even heard from USA Today, Travelzoo, BBC, PBS, Associated Press, Today Show and more.

We were mind blown to have received nearly 47 million impressions and 100 percent engagement rate, in one hour. Forty. Seven. Million.

We also gained more than 100 new Twitter followers on our @Honeywell_Aero account. If you’re not already following us on social, you should jump onboard and see all of our innovative aviation technologies, apps and space products that improve the flying experience for airlines, pilots, passengers and astronauts. In addition to Twitter, you can find us on Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, two YouTube channels: Aviation, Defense and Space, our blog, and more around the world, including WeChat and Weibo.

If you missed the chat, don’t worry we have you covered. Check out a few of the top highlights on our Twitter Moment. If you have any ideas for cool social media events, influencer campaigns or topics you’d like to see us cover, I’d love to hear from you!
