Paris Air Show or Bust – Adventures from Iconic Aviation Location

June 12, 2017 | Author: Hank Winterscheidt

When I heard about the Honeywell Aerospace Roving Reporter employee video contest and learned the prize would be a trip to the Paris Air Show (June 18-23) I couldn’t help but get excited. As a Product Manufacturing Engineer working on the RDR-4000 radar antenna at Aerospace-Olathe in Kansas, I have always had an interest in aerospace and aviation. But, what did I know about creating a prize-winning video audition? After all, I had no real skillset in video production. Nevertheless, with the encouragement of my site leader, Jason Taylor, I decided to give it a try. What was the worst that could happen?

I was a little overwhelmed when I found out I was chosen by the Aerospace Communications team as one of the top three contest submittals. My goal was to impress upon my Honeywell peers that engineers are fun and funny and that I would make the best storyteller. After all, as long as I can remember, I’ve wanted to go to the Paris Air Show. Paris has such a rich aviation history and I wanted to be part of it.

I was so anxious to find out if I won this contest. I was feverishly checking the website every few minutes until the June 2 deadline. When I realized I received the most votes, I was overwhelmed with excitement and absolutely ecstatic. My adrenaline was off the charts! It was a surreal experience. I cannot believe I won. I am so grateful to everyone who voted for me and left supportive comments on my video submittal. I feel like the luckiest person at Honeywell!

So now, I am counting the days until my first reporting assignment. I cannot wait to explore Paris and meet aviation experts and fanatics who have spent their whole lives in the industry that I love. I’m looking forward to seeing the amazing aircraft that I have only read about and seen in videos. But, I’m most excited to learn more about all the innovative technology Honeywell is bringing to the marketplace and the impact it will have on the future of aviation. Just like everyone working at Honeywell, I understand the immense value of the technology we are creating and the real difference it makes in our world.

I am coming up on my one-year anniversary at Honeywell and honestly, the last 10 months have been some of these best of my life. The work I get to do every day is interesting and inspiring. To me, it is so exciting to be part of a technology giant like Honeywell and I cannot wait to share my Paris Air Show experience with everyone!
