Honeywell Expands Learning Horizons for Hundreds of Chinese Students in Inner Mongolia

At Honeywell, innovative thinking is at the core of what we do every day, so we recognize that inspiring and preparing the next generation of science leaders from an early age is incredibly important for the future of our industry. On Sept. 6, we were delighted to help hundreds of students in a remote area of China embrace science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) learning.

Honeywell Hometown Solutions (HHS), the company’s corporate citizenship program, launched two new Honeywell Multimedia Learning Centers in Ordos City, Inner Mongolia, China. Equipped with 4,000 STEM-related books, 40 computers, 2 multi-media educational systems and other digital equipment, these centers are designed to encourage STEM learning opportunities while empowering youngsters to set goals to make a difference in the world.

Participating in the donation ceremony was a unique experience for me. As the new APAC President, being able to witness first-hand the impact we've made in the schools and to these children, parents and educators is comforting and exciting.

The donated multimedia learning tools will provide students the means to discover opportunities in STEM and ultimately become the future thinkers and leaders in the aviation industry. One students in 5th grade mentioned she was excited to have access to computers so she could, “explore the outside world.”

Sharing my love of science and aviation with these schoolchildren is a memory I will carry for the rest of my life. Interacting with the students – reading the text book with them, sharing my dreams, teaching them how to make the paper airplanes and running "flight tests" with all the kids – was eye-opening and inspiring.

I'm proud Honeywell places a high priority on supporting schools in all areas of the world. Over the past eight years, Aerospace-APAC, in conjunction with HHS, has donated 35,500 books and more than 150 computers and other multimedia educational tools to 23 schools in Inner Mongolia, Ningxia, Yunan, Sichuan, Tibet in China and Lao Cai, Thanh Huo and Central Highland in Vietnam. More than 21,500 students in Asia Pacific have benefited from the program to date.

I believe education is the key to giving students wings to fly and the capability to change and improve their hometowns. As a company, we are glad to be part of this growth mindset and look forward to a future filled with inquisitive minds ready to provide innovations for the aviation and aerospace industries for decades to come.
