Cat Videos or Netflix? In-Flight Decisions. Made Easy.

April 4, 2016 | Author: Erica Brinker

Picture it. You’re climbing on board your plane for a short domestic flight…or maybe a long haul international flight. You successfully squeezed your bag into the overhead bin despite the frenzy before take-off. You find your seat, take a breath and get settled in.

Snacks? Check.

Neck Pillow? Definitely.

iPad? Certainly.

The person next to you hogging your armrest? For sure. (Interested in ending the armrest war?)

You are ready for take-off…

Now you just need to entertain yourself for 4 or 14 hours. A good movie will help make the flight more bearable. Wait…did you forget to download movies last night? Oh boy. You just realized it’s going to be a really long flight.

What if you didn’t need to do any preparation to watch a movie while flying at 30,000 feet? Imagine if you could access your Netflix account in the air just like you do at home. Well, two world-class companies have teamed up to make this possible now!

Inmarsat’s Global Xpress network of satellites and Honeywell’s JetWave connectivity hardware provide the first reliable, global high-speed in-flight Wi-Fi service that is available today. It is 100 times faster than other existing global options and will be easier on the wallet too. And (spoiler alert!), it’s coming to an airline near you!

What’s different about our Wi-Fi option? First, it is truly global coverage. And it’s consistent. That means that you don’t get booted off the system or have to log in multiple times. It’s a dedicated satellite network just for Wi-Fi in the sky. No patchy network, no matter where you are in the world. Watch this video to get a better idea of just what a game changer this is to your passenger experience.

Now that we have your high speed Wi-Fi problem solved, here’s a few of our top movies to stream from Netflix now:

Pulp Fiction – (1994) A cult classic chock-full of some of the best movie lines ever! One of the great modern gangster movies to make you forget you don’t have enough legroom for the next few hours.

Love Actually – (2003) Centered around eight couples during the holiday season, this movie is a little bit sappy without being too sweet. It will surely help you cruise through at least 2 hours on a plane.

Wolf of Wall Street – (2013) This movie featuring Leonardo DiCaprio, Jonah Hill and Margot Robbie is based on the real life story of Jordan Belfort. It’s full of corruption, crime and just plain badness.

Jiro Dreams of Sushi – (2011) A subtitled documentary about an 85-year old Japanese man and his enduring pursuit of the perfect sushi. A great way to forget that you have more than a few hours left to your destination.

Reservoir Dogs – (1992) A Tarentino classic, this is not for the faint of heart. A tale of thievery and betrayal and non-stop entertainment to keep you hooked.

Amélie – (2001) Don’t let the French subtitles keep you from watching this romantic comedy that is as imaginative as it is beautiful. If you’re like me, the movie may inspire you to buy your very own garden gnome. Get your own here.

Groundhog Day – (1993) Bill Murray plays a weatherman in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania and keeps you rooting for him day after day as he tries to “do-over” each day with his love interest. It’s unclear just how long he spends in this time loop, but this comedy is sure to help make the time pass faster.

The Aviator – (2004) This modern biopic is based on the life of Howard Hughes. It’s complete with suspense, deceit and madness. The movie spans more than 20 years of his career and will make your flight fly by!

Goodwill Hunting – (1997) Our first glimpse of the ‘bromance’ that is Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, GWH is touching, funny and well told. It may inspire you to do your own calculations…like “are we there yet?”

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off – (1986) What’s not to like from this John Hugh’s 1980’s classic? Bueller? Bueller?

Just in case movies aren’t your thing, we won’t judge you if you want to watch cat videos on YouTube (for the best compilation of cute cat videos, click here). We make it so you don’t have to decide, so kick back and enjoy Netflix and cat videos with Inmarsat’s and Honeywell’s #wifiinthesky.
